Otto Guevara To Present Tuesday Two Bills To Repeal the Taxi Laws

QCOSTARICA – Legislator and former presidential candidate, Otto Guevara, has a new cause: the “liberalization” of public transport.

During the past couple of months Guevara has been making public outrageous salaries at some of the country’s public institutions. On Tuesday he will be presenting two bills to repeal the SEE Taxi and Public Taxi laws.

Guevara explained on Monday on the Nuestra Voz radio program, the initiative is to “liberalize” public transport, as his party has advocated since 1998.

“The Ley de Taxi (Taxi Act) has made public transport a monopoly of the state, while the aberration of the SEE Taxi law removed the word person in  Article 323 of the Commercial Code dealing with the porteo (informal taxis),” said the legislator.

Guevara’s statements are in direct response to the entry of Uber in Costa Rica and the actions of the traffic police seizing vehicles of Uber drivers and the violent actions of a group of “red” (formal) taxis.
